US Customs makes immigration faster thanks to new app
17/11/2022

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has announced the start of a new application to speed up immigration procedures into this country. Mobile Passport Check App (MPC) ) will allow eligible passengers to submit passport information as well as customs declarations via smartphone or tablet prior to arrival at the CBP checkpoint.

This is the first application of a new technology developed by Airside Mobile and the Airports Council International - North America (ACI-NA) in collaboration with CBP within the framework of a pilot program at the international airport. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta.

The partnership between CBP and ACI-NA is a model of cooperation between a government agency and an industry company to find smart and economical solutions.

Starting August 13, passengers arriving at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport can use the app. CBP also hopes that in the near future, this application will be deployed at other airports by the end of this year and at the same time smart devices running on the Android platform will also be able to use this application.

According to Mr. R. Gil Kerlikowske - High Commissioner of CBP, the agency will continue its programs to assist passengers on arrival through new and improved methods to speed up immigration procedures to the United States while still maintaining it. the highest safety standards.

The introduction of the MPC application allowed CBP to reap another success after using the automatic passport control kiosk model at airports (APC). APC has reduced wait times at CBP check-in counters by 25% to 40%.

MPC is applicable to US and Canadian nationals entering the United States. Like APC, the app is free to use, requires no prior approval and does not require passengers' personal information.

With the application of new technologies, the waiting time for customs clearance is significantly reduced, which means that passengers and CBP save a lot of money.

To declare to CBP, MPC users need to do the following 5 steps: Download the MPC application from Apple's app store to your personal device; create a personal profile according to the information on the passport; complete the declaration of “new itinerary” before entering the United States; Submit the customs declaration through the app to receive an electronic receipt with a quick reply (QR) code. The QR code is only valid for 4 hours after being issued. Finally, when passengers arrive at the border gate, they only need to present their personal device (tablet/smartphone) with a receipt receipt with a QR code for the CBP staff to check.

In fact, the MPC is only one part of CBP's resource-maximizing strategy to transform its approach to land, sea, and air border management.

At the end of 2013, CBP implemented the APC program and so far has used APC at 22 airports with the I-94 declaration form. CBP also applies trusted passenger programs such as Global Entry, NEXUS and SENTRI with more than 2 million members. These programs allow CBP to check-in passengers on exit and entry in a safe, economical and efficient manner while ensuring security standards.
